Sidney Crosby Reaches 600 NHL Goals
On November 23, 2024, Sidney Crosby scored his 600th goal in the NHL while playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins. This milestone occurred during a game against the Utah Hockey Club, which ended in a 6-1 loss for the Penguins.
Crosby became the 21st player in NHL history to reach this goal. He scored with just 10 seconds left in a 5-on-3 power play, completing a one-timer set up by teammate Erik Karlsson at 3:11 of the second period. Crosby remarked on the significance of the achievement, saying it felt good but added, “there’s lots of time to think about that, when I’m done playing.”
Crosby is now part of a select group, being the seventh player to score 600 goals for a single franchise and the second for the Penguins. Mario Lemieux, another Pittsburgh great, scored 690 goals during his career with the team.
Crosby expressed his pride in scoring this milestone goal while playing for the Penguins, stating, “to be able to do it at home and have another memory, it’s special.”
In the same game, Dylan Guenther scored two goals for Utah. Other goals came from Nick Bjugstad, Jack McBain, Mikhail Sergachev, and Alexander Kerfoot. Karel Vejmelka made 27 saves for Utah, while Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 24 shots for Pittsburgh.
Crosby and Alex Ovechkin are currently the only active players with at least 600 NHL goals. Pittsburgh is now the second team in NHL history to have multiple 600-goal scorers, joining the Detroit Red Wings, which featured Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman.
