Silenced: Author of ‘Medical Blacklist’ Taken into Custody in Shocking Crackdown on Free Speech
Doctor Arrested for Creating “Medical Blacklist” Amid Ongoing Conflict
A resident doctor, known as Mr. Jeong, has been arrested for creating a “medical blacklist” containing personal data of doctors who do not participate in class actions in the medical field.
This is the first time a trainee has been arrested in connection with the ongoing dispute over legislation in the medical field.
According to reports, Mr. Jeong repeatedly posted lists of doctors and medical students who have returned to the medical field on Telegram and MediStaff, a community of doctors and medical students, since last July.
Police and prosecutors determined that Mr. Jeong’s actions constituted the crime of stalking, as he disclosed detailed personal information such as names and contact information of doctors on call at the medical camp, referring to them as “grateful doctors.”
This has caused anxiety and fear among the individuals whose personal information was revealed.
The government and the medical community have been at odds over the expansion of medical schools, and the creation of such lists has sparked widespread concern.
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has condemned the creation of such lists, stating that “a so-called blacklist is being created that discloses the personal information of medical personnel working in emergency rooms. This is a very serious crime and should never happen.”
The police have handed over 30 people, including Mr. Jeong, to the prosecutor’s office on charges of involvement in the creation of the list, and intend to continue their investigations.
This development highlights the ongoing tensions between the government and the medical community, and the need for a resolution to the conflict.
