Singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose decomposed body was found in his Tesla in September 2025, authorities said Thursday.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Burke was taken into custody in Hollywood on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Local time and booked into jail approximately five hours later. He is being held without bail, and the case will be presented to the district attorney’s office on Monday for review.
According to police, the investigation into Hernandez’s death began after her remains were discovered in Burke’s apparently abandoned Tesla, which had been towed from the Hollywood Hills. The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office stated it is aware of the arrest and expects to receive a case presentation on Monday, at which point prosecutors will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to file charges.
Burke’s legal team has maintained his innocence, stating in a statement to U.S. Media that “actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death.” They added that no indictment has been returned by any grand jury and no criminal complaint has been filed, emphasizing that Burke has only been detained under suspicion.
The arrest marks a significant development in a case that has drawn attention due to the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the victim’s body and Burke’s public profile as a musician. D4vd gained recognition for his work in the music industry, including a performance at the 58th Montreux Jazz Festival in July 2024, where he performed on the Casino stage in Montreux, Switzerland.
As of now, no formal charges have been filed, and the district attorney’s office plans to share an update on Monday once a filing decision has been made. It remains unclear whether Burke will appear in court at that time.
