Singer Kim Heung-guk criticized the ‘former national team members’ who took part in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup who are currently appearing on broadcast entertainment programmes.

On the 1st, Kim Heung-guk appeared on ‘Shinyul’s News Face-to-face’ on YTN Radio and was asked about the next national football team, Heung-guk said, “The stars of the 2002 World Cup should oversee it,” and “They should not be allowed to appear on entertainment programmes. “No entertainment,” he stressed.

Kim Heung-guk also argued that “(the 2002 World Cup players) should teach future prospects who want to play football but have difficulties due to their family circumstances.”

He said, “The stars of the 2002 World Cup need to come to their senses,” and “Why are they appearing on entertainment shows when they should be directed by those responsible for the future of Korean football?” “Don’t you have to supervise the leader now?” he said bitterly.

Kim Heung-guk also talked about the situation where the Korea Football Association continues to appoint foreign leaders as national team coaches even though there are many good coaches in Korea. As for the reason, he explained, “If you use a domestic coach, there are serious problems with academic links and delays,” and “Because football has too many international matches and world football has different trends , we spend a lot of money to hire a foreign coach.”

As for former national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann, “I didn’t like it from the start,” and “When I went to the US 1994 World Cup as a bye, we lost the game between Korea and Germany because of it. Why let someone like that coach (Korean national team)? “I was totally against it,” he said.
