Apple’s Siri Overhaul reportedly Delayed Until Spring 2026
Apple’s revamped Siri, initially slated to debut with Apple Intelligence, may not arrive until spring 2026, according to Bloomberg. The updated AI assistant is now expected to launch with the iOS 26.4 update.
the delay comes despite Apple showcasing new features at its recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The company announced it would change its operating system numbering scheme to “26” for all devices, moving away from year-based numbers.
the “.4” in iOS 26.4 typically indicates a spring release, usually in March, following the new OS debut the previous September.Apple has not yet commented on the reported delay, but told Bloomberg it stands by previous statements that the upgraded Siri will arrive later this year.
Apple’s AI Challenges
Apple Intelligence, unveiled at last year’s WWDC, aimed to position Apple as a major player in the AI arena. However, the development of the smarter siri has reportedly faced numerous obstacles.
The goal is for Siri to better understand natural language and perform more complex tasks using on-device data, such as creating calendar appointments from text messages. The initial plan was to release the upgraded Siri in March, but a leadership change occurred rather. Mike Rockwell, previously in charge of the Vision Pro, replaced John Giannandrea, who led the Siri upgrade team.
Despite Siri’s absence at WWDC, Apple did present some AI features. iOS 26 will include AI-powered call screening to block scam calls, and Apple Intelligence will provide voicemail summaries. WatchOS 26 will also feature a workout Buddy in the Workout app, offering performance tracking, motivation, and workout analysis.
