sisqo’s “Unleash the Dragon”: A Look Back at the 90s Music Video
Updated May 31, 2025
Sisqo’s 1999 single, “Unleash the Dragon,” was accompanied by a music video that aimed for cinematic grandeur. The production spared no expense, opening with aerial shots, a helicopter sound effect, and a sizable crowd.
The video’s narrative aspirations, however, were not universally praised. The attempt to create a “movie” around the song was seen by some as misguided, especially following the success of “Thong Song.”
Adding to the spectacle, a local news crew was present at the video shoot, further amplifying the sense of occasion. The video also featured Sisqo wearing a distinctive chain.
The song itself features memorable lyrics, including the lines, “what I’m about to do / I’m sure nobody expected / But that’s what I do.” The moment when Sisqo declares, “Here I come / N—-s hold me back,” is considered by some to be unintentionally humorous.
Other notable moments include Sisqo receiving sunglasses without making eye contact and people holding flags at what appears to be a block party.
What I’m about to do
I’m sure nobody expected
But that’s what I do
Y’all know me
Right now
I’m about to release the dragon
Uh, uh, come on
Here I come
N—-s hold me back
Tired of holdin’ back
I’m about to let the drag’ attack
What’s next
While “Unleash the Dragon” may not be considered a musical masterpiece, it remains a memorable and often-discussed piece of 90s pop culture, showcasing Sisqo’s unique style and ambition.
