Lt. Aaron Susalla Writes and Performs School Bus Safety Rap
Sterling Heights police launched a safety campaign titled The Real Miss Daisy,
using a parody of Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady
to target motorists who fail to stop for school buses.
The project pairs law enforcement with students from Henry Ford II High School.
Michigan Laws Requiring Drivers to Stop for School Buses
Susalla stated that the humorous track aims to make the safety message memorable and encourage drivers to exercise patience around children crossing streets or boarding buses. State regulations mandate that motorists stop at least 20 feet away from any school bus displaying flashing red lights.
Drivers must remain stopped until the flashing red lights turn off or the bus starts moving. This rule applies to vehicles traveling behind the bus as well as oncoming traffic on undivided roadways.
Sterling Heights Police Pursue Separate High-Speed Driving Suspect
While the safety video addresses routine traffic compliance, law enforcement in Sterling Heights also dealt with extreme reckless driving incidents on city streets.

Sterling Heights Police Captain Mario Bastianelli stated that the fleeing vehicle reached speeds of 100 miles per hour, ran red lights, and drove into oncoming traffic with its lights off. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed into the front of Paris Glass off Van Dyke in Utica.
Two 16-Year-Old Suspects Arrested While Search Continues
Three individuals fled on foot following the crash into the business.
Authorities are still searching for a third suspect involved in the vehicle pursuit. Bastianelli stated that investigators are actively working to identify the remaining individual and take him into custody.
