SK Pangyo data center on fire… Estimate “electrical factors around the battery”

[앵커]

It has been tentatively concluded that the fire at the SK Pangyo Data Center, which caused an unprecedented KakaoTalk crash, was caused by an electrical factor around the battery.

However, there are responses from the IT industry that it is difficult to fathom that the disability has been so prolonged.

It has been tentatively concluded that the fire at the SK Pangyo Campus in Seongnam City, where data management facilities such as Kakao are located, started due to electrical factors around the battery in the electrical room.

This estimate was made after conducting the first forensics involving the scientific investigation team of the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency and the fire department.

A police officer said, “Five battery racks in the electrical room on the 3rd basement floor have been burnt out.

Inside the electrical room where the fire started, there were racks, or shelves, for storing batteries. At the time of the fire, flames and smoke were said to have persisted in five of these racks.

The police said, however, “We are also open to the possibility that there is a problem with the battery and the rack itself.

Some voices say that it is necessary to investigate the failure of the service for a long period after the fire has been extinguished.

An IT industry official said, “It is doubtful whether the power supply was cut off at the time by the fire department or whether the residents were contacted.”

On the morning of the 17th, the police plan to carry out additional investigations in conjunction with related organizations such as the National Institute of Forensic Research.
