SKT Reorganizes Communication Services to Enhance Customer Choice and Convenience

SK Telecom Allows 5G Terminal Customers to Use LTE Rate Plans

Reorganization of Communication Services Provides Flexibility and Choice for Customers

SK Telecom, under the leadership of CEO Young-sang Yoo, has announced a significant reorganization of its communication services, allowing 5G terminal customers to use LTE rate plans. This move is aimed at providing customers with the flexibility to choose their preferred rate plan, regardless of the type of terminal they use.

Previously, customers who wanted to use an LTE plan with a 5G smartphone had to go through a cumbersome process of changing SIM cards or purchasing a self-contained 5G terminal. However, with the reorganization, customers can now seamlessly use 5G / LTE rate plans with any type of 5G / LTE terminal.

For instance, customers who prefer the LTE plan can now switch to a 5G terminal without the need for additional procedures and continue using their existing LTE plan. Conversely, customers using LTE smartphones can opt for the 5G plan, with additional benefits such as the ‘youth plan 0’ for customers under the age of 34.

It is important to note that in order to experience the speed and quality of the 5G network, customers must use a 5G terminal and 5G rate plan. Subscribers who choose an LTE plan while using a 5G terminal will receive LTE network services.

The reorganization also ensures that the subsidy for customers is determined based on the monthly subscription level, regardless of the 5G / LTE rate plan. However, customers with an ongoing subsidy contract should be mindful of potential settlement fees for changes in the rate plan.

The reform plan, scheduled to come into effect from 23 November, has undergone the necessary terms and conditions reporting process by the Ministry of Science and ICT. Kim Ji-hyung, Vice President and VP of Integrated Marketing Strategy at SKT, emphasized that the company aims to continue expanding rate plans that align with customer preferences and needs, while also exploring ways to help customers make more informed decisions about their rate plans.

– SKT, reorganized to allow you to use the rate plan you want regardless of the 5G / LTE terminal… ‘OK’ to use a 5G phone with an LTE plan
– Measures to strengthen customer choice and convenience… Applicable from 23 November following the Ministry of Science and ICT’s reporting process

SK Telecom (CEO Young-sang Yoo, www.sktelecom.com) 5G terminal customers will be able to use the LTE rate plan. SKT announced on the 22nd that it will reorganize communication services so that customers can use various combinations of 5G / LTE communication services at their convenience, regardless of terminal and rate plan.

Previously, in order to use the LTE plan with a 5G smartphone, you had to follow a few steps to change the SIM card or buy a self-contained 5G terminal rather than one provided by a telecommunications company.

After the reorganization, the 5G / LTE rate plan can be used regardless of the type of 5G / LTE terminal. For example, even if a customer who prefers the LTE plan changes their device to a 5G terminal, they can still use the current LTE plan without any additional procedures.

Conversely, customers using LTE smartphones can opt for the 5G plan. In particular, young customers under the age of 34 can use the ‘youth plan 0’, which provides more data volume and benefits than similarly priced LTE plans, when using an LTE terminal.

However, to experience the speed and quality of the 5G network, you must use a 5G terminal and 5G rate plan as before. Customers who subscribe to an LTE plan when using a 5G terminal will get LTE network services.

The final subsidy is determined based on the monthly subscription level regardless of the 5G / LTE rate plan. If the subsidy contract period is ongoing, you should check in advance as a settlement fee (penalty) for the subsidy difference may increase due to a change in the rate plan.

SKT has prepared this reform plan to allow customers to freely choose a rate plan according to their terminal and network quality preferences as 5G commercialization enters the mature stage.

This reorganization is due to come into effect from 23 November, following the Ministry of Science and ICT’s terms and conditions reporting process.

Kim Ji-hyung, Vice President and VP of Integrated Marketing Strategy at SKT said, “We will continue to expand rate plans that match customers’ preferences and needs,” and added, “We are also considering ways to help customers choose rate plans more rationally.”
