Wan Chai Hosts First-Ever Mid-Autumn Festival Drone Show
The Wan Chai district in Hong Kong recently hosted its first-ever Mid-Autumn Festival drone show, which lasted approximately ten minutes and drew in large crowds of citizens. The drone display, which featured “lanterns” suspended in the sky over Victoria Harbor, was a unique and captivating experience for all who attended.
The show began with a jade rabbit appearing in the sky, stepping on moon cakes and wishing everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival. The rabbit then proceeded to push moon cakes towards the crowd, which transformed into lanterns of various shapes and sizes. The lanterns included star fruit-shaped designs, giant pandas, and rabbit lanterns, all of which were a delight to behold.
Citizens were thrilled to catch a glimpse of the beautiful “lanterns” and were even seen “freezing” in place to take in the spectacle. The drone display culminated with the transformation of the lanterns into a fire dragon, which soared over Victoria Harbor. The Jade Rabbit and the Giant Panda made a final appearance, blessing the crowd and bringing the show to a close.
Citizens React to the Drone Show
Despite the Observatory’s prediction of showers, the weather remained clear during the drone show, allowing citizens to fully appreciate the display. Ms. Deng, who attended the event, noted that it took her over ten minutes to walk to the venue and find a good spot to watch the show. Child Liu was particularly taken with the jade rabbit, exclaiming, “That jade rabbit is very cute. I really want to raise a rabbit at home.”
Ms. Zhu, an international student, was attracted to the event after seeing it publicized on social media. She thought the drone show was a great way to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, saying, “The happy Mid-Autumn Festival at the end made everyone happy.”
Other Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations in Hong Kong
In addition to the drone show, other Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations took place throughout Hong Kong. At the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower, citizens gathered to admire the moon and take in the sights of the “Dragon Palace on the Moon” lantern display. Some citizens even chose to take to the sea to admire the moon.
On the lawn opposite the West Kowloon Cultural District, a giant cartoon lantern attracted large crowds, including many families. Some citizens brought their dogs along to join in the festivities, saying, “During the Mid-Autumn Festival, I want to take my dog out for some activities, have fun, have some meaning, and have a reunion.”
Nearby snack stalls also drew in crowds, offering a variety of treats for citizens to enjoy during the celebrations.
