Salvador Pérez, a 34-year-old veteran catcher from Valencia, brings 13 years of Major League experience to Leones del Caracas, having spent his entire MLB career with the Kansas City Royals.
Pérez’s impressive resume includes five Gold Glove awards, four Silver Slugger awards, nine All-Star Game selections, and a World Series championship in 2015, where he was named the Most Valuable Player.
Before Saturday’s game, Pérez had accumulated 154 hits, including 27 home runs, with 103 RBI in 151 games played for the Royals.
In the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (Lvbp), Pérez has previously played for the Tiburones de La Guaira (2012-2013 and 2013-2014) and Águilas del Zulia (2022-2023).
Leones del Caracas will be Pérez’s third team in Venezuelan baseball.
Throughout his career in Creole baseball, Pérez has maintained a .329 batting average, with 95 hits, 19 doubles, 11 home runs, and 63 RBI in 70 games.
