Slovak Athletes Shine at the World Games: Barankova Claims Archery Gold,Malaga Finishes Fifth

Slovakia is celebrating notable results at the World Games in non-Olympic sports,spearheaded by a stunning gold medal win for archer Denisa Barankova and a strong fifth-place finish for speed runner Esteban Malaga. Kickboxers Michaela Góraralczyk and Lucia Cmarová are also set to compete in the semifinals.
Barankova’s Golden Triumph in Archery
Denisa Barankova delivered a performance for the ages, securing the gold medal in women’s field archery. The 23-year-old member of the Bratislava Archery Club considers this victory the pinnacle of her career, even surpassing the significance of Olympic qualification, despite archery being a non-Olympic discipline at these Games.
“I advise the gold medal at the world games in my career as the highest.it is still an Olympic bow, although the non-Olympic discipline. Field archery is my heart. I look forward to showing the best of myself,” Barankova shared with Olympic.sk after the medal ceremony.
Barankova’s journey to gold began with a strong showing in qualification, where she secured second place with 370 points, earning direct entry into the semifinals. She then overcame Italian representative Roberta Di Francescova in a thrilling semifinal match, winning 59:56.
The semifinal proved to be the more challenging contest. After initially trailing, Barankova rallied in the final three shots, scoring 17 out of 18 possible points while Francescova managed only 12, ultimately turning the tide.
“I needed to breathe and exhale before the final series. I knew I could shoot better than the previous targets. Finally it worked out. The semifinals were more mentally demanding.The golden finals were calmer, less my hands were shaking,” Barankova explained. She emphasized the importance of patience and trust in her training, acknowledging the dedicated work with her coach, Vladimir Hurban. “I only believed in the victory when he showed the referee that it belongs to me.Every single arrow counts in the archery. Therefore, you have to wait for the referee to show. We invested very much time with my coach Vladimir Hurban. I tried to stay calm and that helped me.”
Malaga’s Impressive Speed Run Performance
In the speed run event, esteban Malaga delivered a commendable performance, finishing in fifth place with a time of 27.82 seconds. He narrowly missed out on a bronze medal,finishing just 55 hundredths of a second behind Italy’s Andrea Consolini. Malaga qualified for the final as the sixth and final competitor.
“I tried for the best performance to make the track best technically. I almost managed and I was very satisfied with the fifth place,” Malaga stated after the race. The gold medal was claimed by Caryl Cordt-Moller of Switzerland, followed by Czech athlete Jaroslav Chum.
Slovak Kickboxers Prepare for Semifinal Battles
The excitement continues for Slovakia as Michaela Góraralczyk and Lucia Cmarová prepare to compete in the semifinals of their respective kickboxing disciplines on wednesday. Fans eagerly await their performances as they strive for medals at the World Games.
