Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn.,addressed Republican Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, on monday regarding his social media commentary following a deadly shooting in Minnesota. The shooting claimed the lives of a minnesota state representative and her husband.
Smith took issue with lee’s posts, which included a photo of Vance Boelter, the suspect, and the statement: “This is what happens When Marxists don’t get their way.” Boelter was apprehended Sunday night.
Smith told reporters she wanted Lee to understand the pain his words inflicted on her and others.She emphasized the need for Lee to consider the impact of his actions.
Authorities are investigating the shooting as a politically motivated assassination.State Rep. Melissa hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed.State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also injured in the attack.
Lee’s posts also drew criticism from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., among other Democrats.
