ENTRA1, ⁣NuScale to Deploy SMR tech in GCC ⁣for AI Energy Needs

⁣ Updated June 7, 2025

ENTRA1 Energy and NuScale Power are collaborating ⁤to introduce Small modular Reactor (SMR) technology to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. This ‍initiative aims to meet the increasing energy demands⁢ fueled by investments in artificial intelligence, data centers, and hyperscale computing.

The partnership seeks to strategically enable ‍the region’s digital ambitions, especially in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which are making considerable investments in AI infrastructure and research.⁣ ENTRA1⁢ Energy plants™, powered by NuScale’s SMR⁣ technology,⁣ are designed to provide clean, reliable, and scalable energy for both ‍on-grid⁤ and remote applications.

John Hopkins, president ⁢and CEO of NuScale Power, said the UAE and Saudi Arabia are embedding ‍AI⁣ into their national⁢ identities.⁤ He added that this shift ⁢demands⁢ energy resilience at scale and that their technology is strategic infrastructure.

ENTRA1 energy holds exclusive global rights to⁣ commercialize, distribute, and deploy NuScale’s products‍ and‍ services, while NuScale focuses⁤ on‍ reactor manufacturing. The joint venture is actively engaging with government bodies, investment authorities, and technology partners in the region to advance the adoption⁢ of nuclear technology.

Skip Alvarado, chief projects ⁣officer at⁣ ENTRA1 Energy, said digital transformation is reshaping energy requirements. he added⁤ that to support AI⁣ and ‍high-performance computing, scalable energy solutions that provide⁣ baseload continuous power and⁢ prioritize environmental considerations are needed.

NuScale’s SMR design has secured full approval from the U.S. Nuclear ‍regulatory Commission. Each ⁢NuScale Power Module™ is a small, pressurized water reactor⁤ capable of generating 77 megawatts⁣ of electricity or 250 megawatts thermal. Plants can be scaled up ⁤to 12 modules, producing a total of 924 MWe,offering ⁢a scalable energy solution.

“AI integration ⁤is becoming central to national development ⁢strategies. Our SMR technology aligns with the region’s goals for its energy future,” Hopkins ⁢said.

what’s next

By combining ENTRA1’s commercialization and⁢ plant development expertise with NuScale’s approved⁤ nuclear technology, the companies aim to support the Gulf’s digital infrastructure through lasting and resilient energy solutions, contributing to the region’s energy future.
