For many, the snowball Derby is more than just a race; it’s a tradition. “we love the races,” says local couple Jessica and Steve Boyett. “We love coming out here and the kids love coming out. it’s the whole being able to hang out, cookout with family and friends, and watch some good racing.”

“We’re taking every precaution in case we have some issues with the weather,” Bryant explains. “If we get some rain and the track gets wet we’ll simply dry it and continue on.”
The Snowball Derby’s slogan, “legends Start Here,” rings true. Some of NASCAR’s biggest names, including Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty, have graced the track at Five Flags Speedway. This year, fans can witness the return of racing stars like Noah Gragson, Jake Finch, and defending champion Ty Majeski.
“The guy with the target on his back is Ty Majeski,” bryant says. “As he ran a full schedule in the NASCAR truck series which he won the championship. It’s pretty cool to have our defending race winner coming in as a NASCAR champion.”
