Solving the Troubles of Wisdom Teeth: The Need for Extraction and What to Expect

Understanding the Troublesome Wisdom Teeth

During my recent dental visit, the dentist flagged a concern with my wisdom teeth, indicating the issues shown on the dental X-ray images on the computer screen.

Upon examining the black and white films, I noticed the thick white wisdom teeth exerting pressure on the adjacent molars, leading to some dark shadows and cavities.

“The cavities in your molars have been caused by your wisdom tooth. It is crucial to remove it promptly to prevent further complications,” the dentist explained.

Observing the X-rays, it seemed as if the other teeth were engaged in a mime martial arts spectacle. The wisdom teeth were cunningly hiding within the gums, while the powerful molars struggled, displaying bruises and emitting cries of pain. Clearly, dealing with this formidable adversary wouldn’t be easy.

“The wisdom tooth is in close proximity to the sinus. To minimize risks, I would suggest having it extracted at a reputable hospital, as they possess better expertise in handling potential complications if the tooth accidentally falls in,” the dentist cautioned.

Goodness! Did I hear correctly? Is it truly that daunting?

Looking at me meaningfully, the dentist emphasized, “Considering your age, it is imperative to remove the wisdom teeth.”

Feeling slightly overwhelmed, I silently protested against this decision.

The dentist referred me to an expert from the Oral and Facial Surgery Department at the hospital. As I rose from the treatment chair in astonishment, I quickly used my phone to capture a screenshot of the X-ray. Without hesitation, I secured an appointment for a consultation the following day.

The dental clinic’s waiting room was filled with middle-aged men, donning masks of varying shapes that tightly covered their faces. Their eyes exuded a sense of helplessness.

Suddenly, my own ordeal appeared trivial in comparison. Once inside the clinic, the doctor carefully scrutinized my comprehensive mouth X-ray.

“Your wisdom teeth pose some challenges,” the doctor remarked, causing a shiver to run down my spine.

“Due to limited exposure of the wisdom teeth and their proximity to the sinus, extraction requires delicate measures such as cutting the surrounding tissue and potentially sectioning the teeth into smaller pieces,” the doctor explained.

Oh my, the fear started to seep into my mind like an army of ants. I could no longer fathom or comprehend the intricacies involved.

“Alternatively, if we extract the decayed molar alongside the wisdom tooth, the procedure becomes relatively easier,” the doctor suggested, while examining the X-ray images on my phone.

“Oh, your X-ray offers a closer and clearer view! The decay in the molars is quite evident. If you are not inclined to preserve these teeth, extracting them simultaneously would ease the process, with lower associated risks. Let’s schedule the outpatient surgery for November,” the doctor recommended.

Just how intimidating is a tooth extraction procedure?

Hearing these details, I couldn’t help but feel apprehensive.

As the saying goes, “Wisdom teeth remain innocent until they cause trouble.” Finally, it proved to be true in my case.

After conducting some online research, I learned that as one advances in age, the surgery duration increases, followed by a longer recovery period. Will I have to take a day or two off from work?

With the appointment date looming closer, I can’t help but hope for a smooth and successful tooth extraction procedure!

“Your wisdom teeth are in trouble…”

The dentist pointed to the dental X-rays on the computer and told me.

I looked at the black and white film and saw that the thick white wisdom teeth were pressing against the molars next to them and there were some dark shadows where the molars were being pushed against.

“Your wisdom tooth caused the cavities in your molars. It needs to be removed, otherwise it cannot be cured.”

The two teeth in front of me looked like they were performing a mime martial arts movie. The wisdom teeth seemed to be hiding in the gums, the powerful man kicking them. The older middle-aged molar was next to him. completely black and blue. , wailing in pain. It seems that this big man is not very easy to deal with.

“This wisdom tooth is just attached to the sinus. If you’re not careful, it might fall in, so I suggest you go to a big hospital to’ w removed. If it falls in, the hospital can deal with it better.”

What rice! And I heard correctly! Is it that scary?!

“Your wisdom teeth have to be removed at this age…” the dentist said to me meaningfully.

I smiled bitterly and shouted in my heart, I am completely dissatisfied!

The dentist introduced me to a doctor from the Oral and Facial Surgery Department at the hospital, I sat up from the treatment chair in shock, took an X-ray on the computer with my phone, and immediately signed up for a consultation the next day.

The patients waiting outside the hospital’s dental clinic are mostly middle-aged men with dark skin, wearing masks that fit their faces in various irregular shapes, and their eyes are full of helplessness.

I suddenly felt that my situation should be a small case. When I went to the clinic, the doctor looked at my full mouth X-ray.

“Your wisdom teeth are a little troublesome…”

This sentence once again made my scalp itch and make me shiver.

“In addition to the possibility of falling into the sinus, there are very few places where the wisdom teeth are exposed from the gums. The space for extraction is very limited. It may be necessary cut the meat around and cut the teeth into small pieces….”

Oh my God! After hearing this, fear crept into my head like an ant, and I could no longer imagine or think about it.

“Unless the molar next to it is pulled together, it will be easier…”

It seemed I had caught the kickboard, so I quickly pulled out my phone and looked for X-rays from the dental clinic.

“The molar next to it is rotten, so the dentist said the wisdom tooth needs to be removed. So it doesn’t matter if the molar is removed, right?!”

The doctor looked at the mobile phone pictures.

“Oh~ Your X-ray is closer and much clearer! The molars are obviously decayed. If you don’t want to keep these molars, it will be easier to extract them both at the same time, and the risks are relatively high. Low…then schedule the outpatient surgery in November!”

How scary is having a tooth pulled?!

Listening to it like this made me feel quite scared.

I’ve heard people say before that “wisdom teeth stay in place and stay there until they become troublesome.”

This time it really came true.

I checked online and found that the older I get, the longer the surgery and the longer the recovery period after surgery. Looks like I might have to shut down for a day or two?!

As the appointment date approaches, facing the tooth extraction, I hope all goes well!
