On the 8th (local time), the International Institute of Sports Research (CIES), a research organization under the Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), announced that Son Heung-min received the highest score as a result of analyzing the defensive degree of participation of attackers plays in 30 professional football leagues around the world.
CIES evaluated the amount of participation in defense based on the distance sprinted at a speed of more than 25 km per hour during the defense process and the number of times pressure was applied to the opponent even without physical contact or touching the ball , and Son Heung -min first place overall.
Son Heung-min came first (100 points), especially in the distance he ran at high speed when returning to defend.

Son Heung-min’s Tottenham team-mate Richarlison was also second overall to Son Heung-min, coming second in sprint distance (89.9 points) and number of pressures (76.8 points) when restricted to five Europe’s best league.
CIES analyzed that Son Heung-min and Richarlison ranked first and second next to each other because “Tottenham coach Anzhi Postekoglou demands a high level of defensive involvement from attackers in defensive situations.”
Some point to this result as proof of Tottenham’s ongoing problem of weak defending. The defense is so weak that the attackers have to take an active part in the defense. Tottenham have been criticized for their weak defense since before this season. In particular, this season, they have conceded goals in eight consecutive games, and their defense has completely collapsed, conceding as many as 13 goals in their last four consecutive losses.
