Son Heung-min’s goal scoring ability this season is still one of the best in the English Premier League (EPL). He was once again highlighted by being named in the best exclusive list selected by a statistical media outlet.

Whoscored.com, a football statistics media, revealed the best exclusive lineup featuring EPL players for the 2023-24 season on the morning of the 7th (Korea time). The media only composed the lineup with players who perform above the expected rating (xG) for each position. In other words, the top 10 players were selected by subtracting the xG value from the actual number of points scored.

Among the 10 players excluding the goalkeeper, Son Heung-min recorded the highest score. Son Heung-min scored 13 league goals this season. And the xG value based on WhoScored.com is 8.24. Son Heung-min, who should have scored 8 goals, scored another 5 goals. The score minus the xG value is 4.76, which is the most overwhelming first in the EPL. Son Heung-min is also the only one to exceed 4.0 in this figure.

That’s how much Son Heung-min’s performance this season stands out. Although he was absent last month to take part in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, he still maintains his goalscoring ability. Still 5th in the EPL scoring rankings. The gap with first place Erling Holland (Manchester City) is only 5 goals. Holland’s XG is 21.89, but he actually scored 18 goals. Contrary to Son Heung-min, the minus score xG value reaches -3.89.

The only player similar to Son Heung-min in this position is Jarod Bowen. He recorded 3.57 in this figure, coming second in the EPL after Son Heung-min.

The squad is followed by Bernardo Silva (Man City), Mohamed Kudus (West Ham), Leon Bailey (Aston Villa), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Matthias Jensen (Brentford), Christian Romero (Tottenham), Thiago Silva (Chelsea) who were named Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth).

Hwang Hee-chan, who scored 10 league goals this season, is also included in the top 10 in that category. Hwang Hee-chan’s xG is 7.02, but the figure excluding points is 2.98, which ranks 7th in the entire EPL. However, his name was omitted from the starting lineup after being pushed by Son Heung-min and Bailey, who played the same position.

Meanwhile, the one with the worst difference between goals, xG, and goals is Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton). He has only scored 3 league goals this season, but his xG is a staggering 9.3. Indeed, they should have scored 9 goals, but only 3 goals were scored, resulting in a difference of -6.3. Next, Darwin Nuñez (Liverpool) -4.26 and Nicola Jackson (Chelsea) were named in the worst 3 with -4.19.
