A retired British engineer, Karl Lauks, 73, was brutally murdered in South Africa, allegedly strangled with his own belt. the incident⁣ occurred in the driveway of his home in Tulbagh, about 70 miles north of Cape Town.

Lauks, originally from bradford, had been living in⁤ South Africa for more than 20 years. He had gone to South Africa for work and ⁤never returned to live in the U.K.

Police report that a 29-year-old suspect has been apprehended and has already appeared in a local magistrates court in connection with the South africa crime.

The victim was ambushed after returning from his local pub, Herholdt’s Pub ⁣& Grub, on Sunday evening. The assailant ‍reportedly beat Lauks before ⁤strangling him with ‍his own belt and stealing his phone, wallet, and ⁤house keys.

Lauks’ cousin,Tessa Muller,described his death as “truly horrible.” She recounted finding him after a ⁢neighbor noticed his gate ‍and car door were open. Muller said Lauks was a well-known and beloved figure in Tulbagh.

A⁣ friend noted that Lauks had been robbed ‍before and had acquired a pit bull for protection, but the dog⁤ was kept inside.The friend speculated that the attacker knew this and ambushed Lauks⁢ before he ‍could reach the front ⁢door.

The friend added:

“Karl lit his place up and ⁤a ⁤number of other bars in Tulbagh and now his regular seat is sitting there empty.”
