Gamecocks Face Texas in Austin After Overtime Loss

AUSTIN, TX – The South Carolina Gamecocks (11-11, 2-7 SEC) travel to the Moody Center on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to face the Texas Longhorns (13-9, 4-5 SEC). This marks the first time South Carolina has played in Austin since January 23, 1982, and only the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (ET) tip-off and will be broadcast on SEC Network, with Roy Philpott and Daymeon Fishback calling the action. Fans can also listen on the Gamecock Radio Network, with Derek Scott and Casey Manning providing commentary. SiriusXM channel 381 and the SXM app on channel 971 will also carry the broadcast.

South Carolina is looking to rebound from a tough overtime loss at home to LSU on Saturday. Meechie Johnson led the Gamecocks with 21 points, six assists, and five rebounds in that contest. Kobe Knox, who recently reached 1,000 career points, added 15, while Eli Ellis, Elijah Strong, and Mike Sharavjamts each contributed 14, 12, and 11 points, respectively.

Johnson has been a standout performer in SEC play, averaging 18.0 points, 5.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. He currently boasts a 29-game free throw streak, and is 85.7% (60-of-70) from the free throw line in conference games. Johnson is among the top 15 scorers and top five in assists in the SEC. He is also one of only four players in the SEC averaging at least 15.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steal per game.

Through 22 games, the Gamecocks lead the SEC and rank 11th nationally in free throw shooting, converting 78.5% (369-of-470) of their attempts. Carolina also ranks in the top-five in the league in 3-point defense (30.9%) and turnovers per game (10.1).

Texas is led by first-year head coach Sean Miller, who recently secured his 500th career win. The Longhorns are spearheaded by transfer Dailyn Swain, who leads the team in points (17.5), rebounds (7.2), assists (3.4), and steals (1.8) per game. Swain has elevated his scoring average to 21.2 points per contest in SEC action, including a 30-point performance at Auburn on January 28. Freshman 7-footer Matas Vokietaitis (14.9), graduate guard Tramon Mark (12.9), and senior guard Jordan Pope (12.9) also average double figures for Texas.

Texas has split their last four games, including an 87-67 home win over Georgia on January 24 and a 79-69 victory at Oklahoma on Saturday. The Longhorns average 85.5 points per game and rank in the top-15 nationally in free throws made (19.6) and attempted (26.6) per game. They shoot 49.5% from the field, ranking 24th nationally and second in the SEC. However, they commit a high number of fouls, averaging 19.5 per game, placing them 321st in the country.

The series between South Carolina and Texas is currently led by the Gamecocks, 2-1, though the Longhorns lead 1-0 in games played in Austin. The last meeting between the two teams took place on February 22, 2025, with South Carolina winning 84-69, making 34 free throws in the process. Collin Murray-Boyles led the Gamecocks with 22 points and 10 rebounds in that contest.

According to the ESPN Basketball Power Index, South Carolina’s remaining strength of schedule is ranked ninth nationally. The Gamecocks have a 15-1 record under head coach Lamont Paris when shooting 50.0% or higher from the field, and a 20-2 record when scoring 80 or more points. They are 47-10 under Paris when holding opponents below 70 points and 29-3 when limiting opponents to under 40% shooting.

Following Tuesday’s game, South Carolina returns home to face Missouri (15-7, 5-4 SEC) on Saturday, February 7, with a 1 p.m. (ET) broadcast on SEC Network.
