This is the third test launch, and it was a ‘half success’ as it managed to reach Earth’s orbit but failed to return.

Reporter Lim Kyung-ah reported from New York.

‘Starship’, the largest space launch vehicle in human history, lifts its massive body and soars into space.

This is a launch vehicle of the ‘largest scale ever’ developed by Elon Musk with the dream of humans pioneering Mars.

The first stage rocket ‘Super Heavy’ is 70 meters long, and the second stage spacecraft ‘Starship’ is 50 meters long, with a total length of 120 meters and the height of a 40 story apartment building.

Although the test flight started empty, it is big enough for 100 people to go into space at once.

The starship reached Earth’s orbit at a maximum altitude of 234 km and a maximum speed of 26,000 km/ha flying for about 48 minutes.

Afterwards, it vividly captured the appearance of ‘friction flames’ as it fell over the Indian Ocean and re-entered the atmosphere.

“Oh my gosh, you can see the heat developing on the surface as it begins to reenter the Earth’s atmosphere.”

But after this, the broadcast was cut off.

It is thought to have burned or decomposed after falling into the sea.

“We now conclude that spacecraft number 28 has been lost.”

Although it was not a complete success, it is said to have set a new milestone by being recorded as the largest and most powerful rocket ever to reach space.

A starship is due to be used by NASA, the American space agency, to send humans to the moon in 2026.

“SpaceX must prove that Starship is 100% safe before it can fly astronauts. We have not achieved that final step today, but we hope to achieve it in the near future.”

SpaceX has been developing rockets in a ‘fail fast but learn faster’ way.

Six more test launches are scheduled for this year, and interest is expected to grow as to what record it will set next.
