Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş attended the 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of Istanbul University. Istanbul University Rector Prof. attended the ceremony. Dr. Osman Bülent Zülfikar, lecturers and students also attended. The ceremony started with a moment of silence and then the singing of the National Anthem. Istanbul University State Conservatory Choir sang the 100th Anniversary Anthem at the academic year opening ceremony.
“WITH TURKEY’S DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS, THE HUMANITY PROBLEM WE EXPERIENCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WILL BE LEAVED BEHIND”
In his speech at the ceremony, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, said, “We need to make serious efforts in these fields, especially in the field of science. I have no doubt that the next century, the second century of our Republic, will be the century of Turkey. We will give the next generations a much stronger Turkey than the ones we had before us.” We will hand it over together. Each of us will do our part wherever we are. In politics, in the world of science, in the world of art, in the field of culture, in the field of sports, in the field of industry, in short, wherever we are, we will do our job in the best way possible. We will all shoot our arrows towards the same target. In other words, we will rebuild Turkey We will strive to make the next century the century of Turkey in order to make it a strong and great country. Hopefully, we will continue our path in the coming period by first ensuring peace and well-being in our region, strengthening Turkey’s relations with its friends, and providing every opportunity to establish a new world in the world. Turkey “We hope that with the presence of , Turkey’s strong voice and Turkey’s diplomatic efforts, the humanitarian problem we are experiencing today in the Middle East will be left behind,” he said.

Regarding the developments in the Middle East, Kurtulmuş said, “The two sides of the issue, leaving the political issue aside, must first urgently establish a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and in this sense, send the necessary support, especially medical supplies, to the people of Gaza. This is not an issue related to Islam. This is an issue related to humanity. If nearly 8 billion human beings cannot fulfill this human duty, woe to humanity. Shame on those who watch this happen. The second issue is the political side. It has been going on for decades. Without solving this problem, without solving these three issues. First of all, a Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital within the borders of 1967. You go from Beyazıt to Fatih through a neighborhood like that, you go through police checks 50 times, there is no such state. You wake up one morning to Ahmet’s property and Jakob has arrived and is sitting there. Such sovereignty is not possible. It is fully integrated, We say on all international platforms that a sovereign Palestinian state should be established. The second is to remove the bandits who have destroyed the Palestinians’ property under the name of settlement, from the places they occupied. The third is to protect the innocence of holy places, especially Al-Quds al-Sharif and Masjid al-Aqsa. “We say these on every platform,” he said.
“UNITED NATIONS HAVE NOW LOST ITS FUNCTIONS”
TBMM Speaker Kurtulmuş said, “We know how far the world system is from solving problems. What is the reason? All institutions and organizations of the world system have become dysfunctional. I am sorry to say that you see Guterres. The man cannot get in from there. You know, when the Secretary General of the United Nations comes to your countries, What happens to the man you host in one-star hotels and five-star hotels? Why do you close the doors of the Rafah Border Gate in Gaza? When he makes an effort towards humanity, the monster with only one tooth immediately resurfaces. You cannot go. This United Nations has lost its functions now. In fact, and In fact, the United Nations has been thrown into the trash can. The latest vote has now been taken for a new United Nations. 120 countries said ‘Yes’ to the resolution against Israel. 14 of them said ‘No’. Unfortunately, among these, there are some that should not be there. Some of them abstained. It is such a United Nations that if I bring it to you now, there are dozens of United Nations resolutions since 1947 regarding Israel’s expansionism, which you all know. What happens if you make a decision, what happens if you don’t? The man walks with his back to his uncle. It is time for the world to say ‘Stop’ to this and it is passing. Hopefully, there is a need for a change of mentality that will eliminate all institutions and the reasons behind all these crises. There is a need for a new political perspective based on the equality of people in creation. Every human being is free, sovereign and equal from creation. Everyone’s Prophet. There is a need for a perspective that believes in goodness. There is a need for an understanding that accepts that all countries in the world, not just five countries, are sovereign and equal countries. However, this is not possible just by saying it. As Turkey, thank God, we say this over and over again on every platform, but by reinforcing this promise with power behind it, we will see that this promise is fulfilled with God’s permission. The way to do this is through science. The way to do this is through art. The way to do this is through literature. It goes through culture. It goes through social solidarity. “It’s about being united, being together and being strong,” he said.
