A special education teacher found guilty in the first trial on charges of emotionally abusing the son of webtoon writer Joo Ho-min has appealed.

Mr. A, a special education teacher, appeared at the Suwon District Court on the morning of the 6th and held a press conference appealing. Mr A told a press conference: “Before placing the recorder in the student’s bag, we had to consider what efforts the parents had made regarding the alleged abuse. “I am disappointed by the court’s decision to admit ‘illegal recording’ into evidence. I think the act of parents blindly recording a teacher’s lesson out of momentary emotion because it hurts their feelings should be eradicated.”

However, Mr A said that while it is difficult to say that this was an abusive situation considering the overall purpose of his statement, he would humbly accept the judiciary’s point that parents may be upset.

Previously, on September 13, 2022, Mr. A said to Joo Ho-min’s son (9 years old at the time) during a personalized learning class at a primary school in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do: “He has very bad habits. Oh , I hate him. I hate him to death. I don’t like you. I hate you too. He was indicted on charges of emotionally abusing the child victim, also stating, “I really hate him.”

At that time, Joo Ho-min sent a recorder to the school on behalf of his son, and later reported Mr. A to the police on charges of child abuse based on the recorded content, and an investigation began .

On the 1st day, the court postponed Mr. A’s sentencing to a fine of 2 million won. In the trial the admissibility of the “secret recordings” was questioned and in the first trial it was declared that the transcripts in question constituted evidence collected illegally because they were recordings of conversations between other people not made public, but considering the exceptional nature of the In this case they the evidence was found admissible and Mr A was found guilty on charges of emotional abuse.
