Springfield Cardinals pitch Second Straight June 20 No-Hitter

For the second year running, the​ Springfield Cardinals, the Double-A affiliate, threw a‍ no-hitter on ‌June 20. ​This year’s 1-0 victory, played at Hammons Field, was also against the corpus Christi Hooks. The team was decked out⁣ in Margaritaville-themed jerseys.

No Major League Baseball team has ever thrown a no-hitter ‌on the ⁣same calendar day in⁢ consecutive years.

In 2024, Cooper Hjerpe, the Cardinals’ No. 12 prospect, led a seven-inning no-hitter.Hjerpe pitched five innings, striking out six and walking one.

This year, the no-hitter‌ had extra flair. tink Hence, the organization’s No.3 prospect, made his first Double-A start of the season ‍after the Cardinals clinched a Texas League playoff spot the previous day. Hence, who has appeared in the last two SiriusXM All-Star Futures ‌Games, had ⁣been sidelined with a right rib cage strain.

“I just wanted ⁢to come here and contribute and bring good energy,” Hence said.
