[이데일리 스타in 김보영 기자] Actor Lee Jung-jae of ‘Squid Game’ brought laughter by explaining the scene in ‘Lunch Meokbang’ in the play that has recently been a hot topic online.

In a video interview with reporters on the 29th, Lee Jung-jae talked about the main scenes in Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’, such as the tee in ‘Lunch Box Mukbang’, the ending of Sung Ki-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), and his relationship with Yoo Nam (Oh Young-soo). told the back story.

Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ (Director Hwang Dong-hyuk), released on the 17th, is an original series that tells the story of those who participated in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the ultimate winner. all. Not only did it take the first place on Netflix’s ‘Today’s TOP 10’ in Korea, but it also became the first Korean drama to top the ‘Today’s Top 10’ in the United States, the home of Netflix. In addition, as announced by Flix Patrol, a global OTT streaming ranking site, on the 28th, ‘Squid Game’ is currently ranked first in the TV show category in 76 countries around the world.

After losing his job due to restructuring in the play, Lee Jung-jae played the role of Sung Ki-hoon, who took part in a survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won after receiving a business card handed to him by a mysterious man he met on the subway while he was going back and forth between debt and gambling.

During the interview on the same day, Lee Jung-jae burst into laughter saying that he knew this too when the topic ‘Jade Tee’ that was discovered by netizens after the broadcast of ‘Squid Game’ was mentioned. Recently, online, in the scene where the game participants ate a lunch box with each other in the play, Lee Jung-jae, who pretended to eat hard without actually eating, was caught, and the back image of Lee Jung-jae floating in the air was caught. The netizens who discovered this added modifiers such as “the master of air mukbang” and “Lee Jeong-jae, the king of self-management,” and the scene spread like a ‘meme’, giving laughter.

Lee Jung-jae said, “When filming the eating scene, in the first take, I actually eat well. But when the take goes over three, four, or more than the fifth, I start to cheat because I’m full.” He said, “I think I did it because I thought it wouldn’t come out well in that scene because I had my back on the camera. I ate really hard in the front, but he wrote that scene in the edited version (laughs). Probably because I ate so much air that the editors didn’t even know about it.”

At the end, the scene where Ki-hoon dyed his hair red also sparked a topic of discussion among netizens, giving rise to various interpretations.

Lee Jung-jae recalled, “It was also in the actual script,” and “I also remember talking with the director about why Ki-hoon had to have red hair at first.”

He continued, “Isn’t red hair a color that a normal man of Ki-hoon’s age would never do? That is why I wanted to show the behavior and will to overcome such a limit that would never be chosen by normal standards.” However, the person who played the role wore a wig that was not actually dyed. Lee Jung-jae said, “Due to the nature of the other work I’m filming, if I dye my hair with real red hair, there’s a very big situation that makes it impossible to do the job, so I searched for a wig that fits my real hair and wore it.”

In the drama, Sung Ki-hoon, who showed only an infinitely immature appearance to his elderly mother, expressed his special interest in the old and sick participant No. Lee Jung-jae said, “As a weak person who was not protected, he had a memory of desperately needing someone’s help, so I thought it must have been such a mentality that he could not easily pass people who were considered weaker than him.”

As a survival game where I felt dizzy while acting, I picked ‘Glass Stepping Stone’.

“Personally, the stepping stone was very difficult,” he said. Tempered glass was laid with only 1.5m to 2m apart, and the production team also said that you can run as much as you like because it is safe, but that didn’t work out as well as you wanted (laughs). Without realizing it, my feet were sweating and I kept slipping,” he recalled.

Regarding other games, he said, “Some games were dizzying because of the large scale like ‘Mugunghwa Blooms,’ but there are also games that made me goosebumps because of the idea of the production team.” The artistic perfection was also outstanding, as if visiting the museum. In the case of tug-of-war, it was fun to set it up for each section in detail. Each time, I was curious about what the next set would look like, and when I went to work on the set, I was amazed and busy taking pictures.”

In fact, he also expressed his belief that he would donate without hesitation if he became the main character of 45.6 billion won. Lee Jung-jae said, “I don’t know if it’s Ki-hoon, but if Lee Jung-jae has 45.6 billion won, it’s a different story. Of course, I would be happy to donate.”

Recently, PD Na Young-seok also gave an answer to Lee Jung-jae’s love call asking him to appear on an entertainment program with his best friend Jung Woo-sung.

“PD Na Young-seok, if you want to make your dreams come true, please come to our company. (Laughs)”
