St. John’s Volleyball Faces Virginia in NIVC Super 16 Showdown
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Riding high after a straight-set sweep of north carolina A&T, the St. John’s volleyball team is set for a historic clash against Virginia in the NIVC Super 16 Round. The match, scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday at Virginia’s Memorial Gymnasium, marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The Red Storm (22-12, 10-8 BIG EAST) secured their third consecutive opening-round victory in the NIVC on Saturday night, dispatching North Carolina A&T 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21).This marks St. John’s third straight appearance in the NIVC Super 16. Last year, the Johnnies defeated Howard in straight sets before falling to USF in a thrilling five-set battle.
Leading the charge for St. John’s is junior right-side hitter Erin Jones, who notched her 10th triple-double of the season against North Carolina A&T. jones recorded 16 assists, 13 digs, and 13 kills, adding two aces and a block assist to her notable stat line.She previously shattered the BIG EAST single-season triple-double record with her eighth of conference play against Providence in the final match of the regular season.Jones is one of only four players in the nation to register 10 or more triple-doubles this year.
Sophomore libero Rashanny Solano Smith was a defensive force against the Aggies, racking up 24 digs, including 10 in the decisive third set. Solano smith averages an impressive 4.1 digs per set and leads the Red Storm with 464 digs this season. She has also contributed 99 assists and 16 service aces.
Freshman outside hitter Ana Benjamim delivered a strong performance at Memorial Gymnasium, registering 10 kills at an efficient 47.4 hitting percentage. This marks Benjamim’s second double-digit kill performance of the season.
the Cavaliers (21-10, 11-9 ACC) are making their first postseason appearance since 1999 and their third overall. Virginia is led by outside hitter Elayna Duprey, who paces the team with 316 kills at 2.93 per set. Middle blocker Abby Tadder anchors the Cavaliers’ defense with 113 total blocks, including 11 solo rejections. Tadder has also contributed 305 kills at a 27.8 percent hitting clip, along with 144 digs and 16 aces.
Setting duties are shared by Ashley Lee and ACC All-Freshman Team member Zoey Dood. Lee leads the team with 683 assists, while Dood has tallied 385 assists this season. Dood has also recorded 65 kills, while Lee has logged 254 digs.
