Stalemate in Spain: De la Fuente Reveals the Shocking Truth Behind Serbia Draw

Stalemate in Spain: De la Fuente Reveals the Shocking Truth Behind Serbia Draw

September 6, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

Spain Coach Luis de ‍la⁤ Fuente Reflects‌ on Goalless Draw‍ Against Serbia

Luis de la Fuente, the head coach of the Spain national team,⁢ shared his⁣ thoughts on the team’s goalless draw against Serbia in the first round of the 2024 European Nations League.

De la Fuente attributed the team’s lackluster performance to inaccuracies‍ in⁤ finishing and ⁤a lack‍ of quality in the final third ⁤of the ⁢field during the first half. “We were not accurate, especially when it came to finishing, and we lacked quality in the final ⁢third of the field,” he explained.

The coach also cited the team’s limited preparation time as a factor, noting ⁣that many players did not ⁣have the opportunity⁣ to participate in a‍ warm-up tour during the summer. “It was like a warm-up match, ‌due to the fact that many players were not able to get a‌ warm-up tour during the summer, while others ‍were lucky enough to do⁢ so,” he said.

De la Fuente expressed optimism that the team’s performance would improve with more matches played, particularly in October. ⁤”In‌ October, maybe the situation will change with more matches played, but currently there is a lack of suspensions,” he noted.

The coach also felt that his team ⁣was denied a penalty kick after Joselu’s tackle,‌ which he believed would have‌ altered the outcome of the ‍match. “I had to watch the shot again on television, ⁤but⁣ on the ⁣pitch I thought it was a penalty kick,‌ and Joselu‍ thought the same thing,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Spanish national team will face Switzerland in ⁤the second round of the tournament next Sunday. The⁢ match is part of Group D, which also includes Serbia and ‌Denmark. Denmark secured a 2-0⁤ victory⁢ over Switzerland on Thursday.

Group D Standings:

  • Spain
  • Serbia
  • Switzerland
