Standing 102.3 meters tall, the ‘Giant Cypress’ in China is the tallest tree in Asia.

LINZHOU, June 18 (Xinhua) — On June 15, a team of Chinese researchers went to the forest in search of a 102.3-meter-tall Tibetan cypress (Cupressus torulosa) in the Tibet Autonomous Region (Xizhang) in the southwestern part of the country which became the tallest new tree in Asia

Back in April 2022, a team of researchers led by Peking University found a 76.8 meter tall tree in Medog County, Tibet Autonomous Region. which was considered the tallest tree in China at the time

A month later, this record was broken when an 83.2-metre tall tree was found in Zayu County of Nyingchi in Tibet, before a 102.3-metre tall cypress was found in the county Yalu Zhangbu Grand Canyon National Nature Reserve, County Bome , Linzi City in May 2023.

A member of the survey said that the city’s commitment to protecting the ecology and environmental diversity of Lingzhi City has increased. It is an important condition that there are many tall trees here.

By the way, Tibetan cypress grows mainly in southeast Tibet. It has a narrow distribution area and a small population. and it is registered as China’s highest level of protected plants.
