Stanley Recalls Nearly 3 Million Travel Mugs Due to burn Risk
Popular stainless steel mugs pose scalding hazard, company says
(New York,NY) – Stanley,a beloved brand known for its durable outdoor gear,is recalling approximately 2.6 million travel mugs sold in the United States due to a potential burn risk. The company announced the recall after receiving reports of lids detaching from the mugs, perhaps causing scalding injuries.
The recall affects Stanley’s double-wall vacuum insulated travel mugs with trigger-action lids. The mugs were sold in a variety of colors, including white, black, adn green, and in sizes of 12, 16, and 20 ounces. They feature a polypropylene lid with the Stanley logo on the front and bottom.
According to Stanley, the threads on the mug lids can shrink when exposed to heat and pressure, causing the lid to detach unexpectedly during use. This can result in hot liquids spilling and potentially causing burns.
The company has received 91 reports worldwide, including 16 in the United States, of lids detaching from the recalled mugs. These incidents have resulted in 38 burn injuries globally, with two reported in the U.S. Eleven consumers worldwide required medical attention due to these injuries.
The affected mugs were sold online through retailers like Amazon and walmart, as well as in brick-and-mortar stores such as Dick’s Sporting Goods and Target, between June 2016 and December 2024. Prices ranged from $20 to $50 depending on the model.
stanley urges consumers to immediately stop using the recalled mugs. The company is offering free replacement lids, including shipping, to affected customers.
