A Century of Aviation Excellence
The gala convened generations of Atlanta mayors, Delta executives, celebrities, and aviation enthusiasts to commemorate the company’s evolution “from crop-dusting barnstormer to the apex of commercial aviation.”
Mayor Andre Dickens, addressing the gathering, remarked, “Y’all don’t look a day over 100 at all. You look good to be 100.”
An Evening of Elegance and Celebration
The event showcased the refined elegance of air travel. Guests were greeted with champagne through a life-sized cabin window as they entered the main event space, designed as a sky-themed tunnel. Culinary stations offered an international tour, featuring shrimp siu mai alongside brisket and grits. The evening featured performances by Vitamin String Quartet and seven-time Grammy winner jon Batiste.
The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a new Delta jet adorned with a 100th-anniversary emblem.
Tributes and Recognition
Former atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, visibly emotional, delivered the invocation, reflecting on Delta’s journey “from a crop duster to a transcontinental community.” His prayer occurred a day after the passing of his daughter, Lisa Young Alston.
Delta’s centennial has also inspired commemorative resolutions and proclamations from lawmakers in Georgia and across the contry, including resolutions from Georgia’s senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, and U.S. representatives Brian Jack and Nikema Williams.
Representative Williams acknowledged Delta’s importance, stating, “Thank you to Delta for getting me to work each week,” while highlighting the resolutions.
Delta’s Enduring Legacy
Throughout the celebration, delta’s role as Atlanta’s largest private employer and its distinctive company culture were central themes.
As stated by Bastian,”(Delta) may not have the fanciest airplanes and may not be considered the best at technology — we’re great at that stuff, too. But it’s the people and the consistency of excellent service and taking care of each other that makes Delta who we are.”
