Antonio Filosa, currently North American chief operating officer, will become the new CEO of⁢ auto giant Stellantis, the‍ company announced Wednesday. The leadership ⁢change addresses a void that opened months ago.

The multinational corporation, which owns Jeep,Dodge,Fiat,Chrysler and⁣ Peugeot, will hold a shareholder meeting soon to elect Filosa to the board as an executive director. He will officially take over CEO duties on June 23, succeeding Carlos ⁢Tavares, ⁤who resigned unexpectedly in December.

Filosa, a 25-year company veteran, previously served⁢ as Jeep brand CEO and chief quality officer.⁣ He⁣ became North America COO in October 2024. His appointment comes‍ as Stellantis navigates a⁢ challenging period.

The company recently reported a 14% drop in first-quarter net revenues and withdrew its full-year financial guidance, citing uncertainties ⁤related to potential trade tariffs. These tariffs could significantly impact the car industry, given⁤ its global supply chains and reliance on North American manufacturing.

John Elkann, who has led an interim executive committee since Tavares’ departure, will remain executive chairman.

“It is indeed my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic ⁣Company,” Filosa said, adding that he is taking over at a “pivotal time for⁢ our industry.”

“Antonio’s deep understanding of our⁢ Company, including its people who he views as our core strength, and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of Chief Executive Officer in this next and crucial phase of⁣ Stellantis’ development,” Elkann said.

Stellantis shares,⁢ listed in ⁤milan, are down nearly 27% so far this year. The appointment of Antonio Filosa as CEO signals a strategic move to address these challenges and steer the company forward amid⁤ industry shifts and trade uncertainties.

What’s next

Filosa’s leadership will be crucial as Stellantis navigates evolving market dynamics and seeks to overcome financial headwinds. The company’s future‍ strategy under his direction will be closely watched by ⁤investors and industry analysts alike.
