Stellantis has recently updated several models, announcing an increase in power for versions equipped with the 1.2-liter gasoline mild hybrid engine. Thes models now boast 110 adn 145 horsepower, a modest increase of 9 hp over previous ratings.
The company says that this adjustment didn’t require meaningful alterations to the engineS control unit mapping or turbocharger size. The increase, while seemingly small, reflects a change in how Stellantis calculates total power output.
Accounting for Electric Motor Output
The key to the power increase lies in a revised calculation method. Stellantis has begun including the output of the 28-hp electric motor in the total horsepower figure. Previously, this contribution was not factored into the overall rating.
The powertrain mild Hybrid system, found in many Stellantis vehicles, combines a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 136 hp and 230 Nm of torque with a 21-kW (28-hp) electric motor. The electric motor, a synchronous permanent magnet unit, is integrated into the dual-clutch transmission and powered by a 48-volt, 432-Wh lithium-ion battery.
