The Herd Quartet Releases New Song and Music Video for “Our Hometown Boy”
The Herd Quartet, formed by Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus, has released a new song, “Our Hometown Boy,” along with a music video. The new song will be featured on the band’s self-titled debut album, “The Herd Quartet,” due for release on October 4th via Matador.

The Herd Quartet consists of Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, Jim White, and Emmett Kelly. Emmett Kelly, who sings lead on “Our Hometown Boy,” says of the song: “On “Our Hometown Boy,” The Herd Quartet mythologize the fierce characters of their shared hideout and utopia, overlooking a beach famous for its undertow. It’s a conversation staring out a snowstorm from a bar window about what paradise looks like. Adventures in the porn business. Runaways and life on the street. Lush green grass at home.”
Matt Sweeney continues: “‘Our Hometown Boy’ shows why Jim White, Stephen Malkmus, and I are so excited to be in a band with Emmett Kelly. It’s a testament to just how good a musician Emmett is – seriously, he’s so good.”
The Herd Quartet also recently released their debut single, “Earth Hater,” with a music video warning against littering, in which the band act as ocean protectors by sending a trash monster to exact revenge on littering surfers.
Upcoming Live Performances
The Herd Quartet is also scheduled to perform live in Los Angeles, New York, and London in October.
