Stroman’s return comes after he spent 2½ months on the injured list, battling inflammation in his left knee. Manager Aaron Boone announced the move following the Yankees’ 3-0 victory against the Athletics on Friday.
Boone emphasized the importance of evaluating Stroman’s readiness. “We wanted to see him today, make sure he’s in a good spot, good with his pen and everything,” Boone said. “So just checking the boxes.”
Stroman last pitched for New york on April 11 against the San Francisco Giants, where he allowed five runs in less than two innings amid rainy conditions. the Yankees afterward placed him on the 15-day injured list, initially expecting a brief absence.
