Canada’s Online Passport Renewal Program Delayed

The federal government’s previously announced online passport renewal program has been delayed by more than a year, leaving Canadians disappointed and wondering why they can’t renew their passports online like their U.S. counterparts.

In May 2023, the Immigration Department announced that passport renewals would be available online starting in the fall of 2023. However, as of September 2024, there has been no update on the program’s status.

The Immigration Department announced online passport renewal in May 2023 when it unveiled a new passport design with enhanced security. However, updates on the program have been scarce since then.
