Lucille and Nathaniel Plett, residents near the airfield, recounted the harrowing experience to Global News. Lucille described hearing a “crackling,banging sound and then the engine turned off,” initially thinking it might be part of a stunt. However, the subsequent “big crash and a big bang” quickly revealed the severity of the situation. Nathaniel added that they observed “a pillar of black smoke coming up” followed by another,larger plume.The crash occurred approximately 42 miles south of Winnipeg. Emergency services responded to the scene, but sadly, Royes was pronounced dead.

Family members have remembered Savanna as ”the essence of pure joy,” sharing that her “faith and laughter will forever touch everyone who was lucky enough to have known her during her short life.” The loss is deeply felt by those who knew her.
