Submit semiconductor information to the US by the 8th

As the deadline for submitting semiconductor supply chain information required by the US government to major companies is approaching a day later, the government has decided to expand high-level communication between the US and South Korea.

On the 7th, the government announced that it had finally checked the countermeasures to the US request for semiconductor information at the Foreign Economic and Security Strategy Meeting, presided over by Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance.

The government emphasized, “After the submission deadline on the 8th (US local time), we plan to further solidify the Korea-US semiconductor supply chain cooperation partnership through high-level communication with the US side.”

The U.S. government held a video conference with the global semiconductor industry on September 24 and demanded ‘submit a questionnaire containing supply chain information such as semiconductor inventory and customers within 45 days’.

As the recent semiconductor shortage continued, it announced that it would investigate the supply chain situation on its own, but concerns have been raised about the leak of trade secrets as it contains sensitive information such as semiconductor inventory quantity and order history.

It is reported that domestic semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are reviewing the data without submitting it yet.

The government also announced that they discussed the main results of the Global Supply Chain Summit held during the G20 Summit and the direction of future responses.

The government decided to prepare a plan to build long-term resilience of the supply chain, and to prepare for future multilateral discussions related to supply chains through cooperation with major countries.
