Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war for over two years,pitting the Sudanese army against the paramilitary Rapid Support forces (RSF). The conflict, wich began in April 2023, has expanded to multiple regions, with North Kordofan state becoming a recent focal point as the RSF launched an offensive to gain control of the strategically important area.
drone Strikes Disrupt Power Supply in El-Obeid
On Sunday, the power supply to El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, was cut following drone strikes on the city’s power station. The national electricity company reported that the attacks caused a fire within the machinery building, forcing a complete halt to electricity generation.
Recent Territorial Gains by Army-Aligned Forces
As of Wednesday,army-aligned forces announced they had successfully recaptured several cities south of El-Obeid from the RSF. The Joint Forces,an umbrella association comprising armed groups fighting alongside the army,claimed to have achieved “sweeping field victories” in the North Kordofan axis.
Specifically, the Joint Forces stated they had gained control of Kazqil, Hamadi, El-Rabash, Habila, and El-Dubaibat, all considered strategic areas within the region.
