Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The United Arab Emirates, on Sunday, expressed its concern about the increase in acts of violence in Sudan, especially those that affected civilians, women, children and adults in Al-Jazira Province, as which was reported by the Emirati News Agency “WAM” in a statement.

Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the Minister of State, expressed the UAE’s “deep concern about the increase in violence in Sudan, especially those that affected civilians, women, children and the elderly in Al-Jazira Province, and which led to the killing and wounding of many innocent civilians.”

Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan stressed “the state’s concern about reports of sexual violence against women and girls, the high risk of starvation, and the continued displacement of thousands of civilians.”

According to the statement, Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan “urged the Sudanese warring parties to return to dialogue, and to respect their obligations in accordance with the Jeddah Declaration, and to the mechanisms proposed by the (Action Group to Promote Life Saving and Peace in Sudan ), related to facilitating the arrival of humanitarian aid in a safe, urgent and unobstructed manner and complying with international humanitarian law obligations,” according to the Emirati agency.

Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan also stressed “the need for civilians to enjoy full protection under international humanitarian law, and the need for them not to be the target of conflict.”

Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan reaffirmed the firm position of the UAE demanding an immediate ceasefire, and achieving a national consensus to form a government in which civilians participate and are led, in a way that meets the aspirations of the fraternal people of Sudan for development and prosperity, WAM reported.

A few days ago, the Sudanese media announced the killing of dozens of civilians as a result of attacks by the Rapid Aid Forces on villages in Al-Jazira Province.
