Suncheon Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu “We will pursue medical school attraction and incinerator issues according to principles.”

Noh Kwan-gyu, mayor of Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, emphasized “principled promotion of major regional projects” during a meeting with heads of local organizations and organizations on the 2nd.

On this day, in the city hall conference room, Mayor Noh presided over a ‘pending issue discussion session for heads of related organizations and organizations’ to facilitate the smooth promotion of the next-generation public resource facility (garbage incinerator), whose location has been decided by local governments, and the attraction of a medical school, which has emerged as the region’s biggest issue, and shared the progress. and exchanged various opinions.

At the discussion held on this day, attended by a large number of heads of related organizations and organizations, including the Suncheon City Council and the Suncheon Police Station, Mayor Noh personally briefed on pending tasks such as attracting a medical school and next-generation public resource facilities.

He said, “The attraction of medical schools must be resolved with medical logic and principles rather than political controversies.” He added, “Jeollanam-do has eroded trust in its own administration by making a sharp turn from a joint medical school to an integrated medical school, and then to a public offering for a single medical school. “I have strong suspicions that they are only inciting conflict by tearing it into two sides,” he explained.

He then pointed out the poor medical reality in the eastern region, saying, “The eastern region has the highest transfer rate for severe emergency patients, there are only two general hospitals with more than 300 beds, and the transfer time to a tertiary general hospital takes more than an hour.”

On the other hand, “Despite having a large population and an industrial base, the reality in the eastern region is that there is no tertiary hospital at the level of a university hospital, so the residents’ right to life is not guaranteed,” he said. “The establishment of a medical school is based on objective indicators, not politics.” “We must follow medical logic and principles,” he emphasized.

Mayor Noh also provided an explanation of the construction of the next-generation public resource facility, the final location of which was decided and announced by the Yeonhyangs on the 2nd of last month.

He said, “The selection of a location for a public resource facility is based on the decision of the site selection committee and is not something the mayor can do alone.” He added, “The completion of the consultation with the Ministry of Environment’s Yeongsan River Office was due to a legitimate process of collecting residents’ opinions, including a resident briefing session, and strategic environmental impact.” “It means there is nothing wrong with the evaluation,” he said.

At the same time, he stated, “The decided location cannot be withdrawn due to unreasonable opposition from some residents or political controversy.”

The next-generation public resource facility is an energy reproduction facility utilizing waste resources that hygienically incinerates municipal waste and uses the heat of incineration to produce electricity and energy in accordance with the government policy of banning direct landfill of volume-based household waste from 2030.

The plan is to build a waste incineration treatment facility underground and create a space for culture, leisure, and relaxation for residents, including sports facilities, an international standard swimming pool, and lodging facilities, on the ground level, making it a landmark of Suncheon that harmonizes with the Suncheon Bay National Garden.

Starting with the discussion of current issues on this day, the city plans to share future issues related to people’s livelihoods with heads of related organizations and organizations and actively reflect opinions in city administration.

In addition, starting from the 3rd, starting with the original downtown revitalization plan, we plan to hold a ‘win-win talk with citizens’ to listen to the voices of citizens on the ground and continue to improve the livelihood of the people.
