According to Surfshark’s Chief Technology Officer, Donatas Budvytis, the move is driven by several converging factors. These include the increasing number of devices in households – each requiring network capacity for tasks like software updates – and the rising demand for higher bitrate streaming as stated in the company’s press release.
Budvytis emphasized that the 100Gbps infrastructure provides “10 times the headroom of 10Gbps,” reducing congestion and maintaining consistent speeds, even during peak usage.
