Survey Shows One in Four Japanese Couples Met Through Dating Apps, Equal to Workplace Meetings
TOKYO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) – Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Co., Ltd., a leading life insurance company in Japan, recently released the results of its latest survey, revealing that an equal proportion of one in four Japanese couples who married last year met through a dating app, mirroring the same number of couples who met in the workplace.
The survey, conducted online between October 12-16, involved 1,620 married individuals aged 20 to 30 and aged 79 across the country. The findings were released on Thursday, Nov. 16.
According to the survey, 25% of newlyweds said they had used a dating app to meet their spouse, while the same percentage said they had met in the workplace. Additionally, 13.5% reported meeting their partner through recommendations from friends or acquaintances, 9.4% through schoolmates, and 7.3% at a party or event organized to find a marriage partner.
When questioned about their reasons for using dating apps to find a marriage partner, 46.7% said it was because it was easy to meet people, and the same percentage cited difficulties in meeting partners at work. Another 41.7% mentioned the ability to choose their own partner as a key reason.
An analysis of the survey results indicated that workplace meetings used to be more common for marriages but could regain prominence due to the increased presence in the office following the COVID-19 pandemic and the reduced scope of remote work, leading to enhanced interaction in the workplace.
