During an ‍interview, Lesteberg was interrupted by a child exclaiming, there is a miss in park dress!

Program Could Save Up to 900 Tons of Plastic Annually

The⁣ park suit rental program operates as follows:

  • The municipality of Krødsherad rents park suits for all children in Noresund and Krøderen kindergartens from liis. parents do not pay for the service.
  • When a park suit is worn or too small, it is⁣ replaced with⁢ a larger or newer one. The materials from the old suits are recycled.

There are approximately 270,000 kindergarten children in Norway, acquiring up to 1 million park suits annually.

Hojem stated that if all kindergartens in Norway⁤ adopted the rental⁤ program, production could be reduced by 75%, ‍corresponding to up to 900 metric tons of plastic annually.

Praise ⁢for Innovation

Back at Noresund kindergarten,Lesteberg observed the children playing outside.

We have never changed so little clothes ever in kindergarten, ⁣she said.

The children wear the green and orange suits, ⁣each with their name on ⁢the back.

A Velcro surface is made on the back, so names can ⁢be replaced when the suit becomes too small. ‍And they are designed to be equally popular for both girls and boys, Lesteberg explained.

Krødsherad municipality is the⁤ first in the ⁢country to participate in the program. Lesteberg praised the municipality for ⁣its willingness⁣ to innovate.
