Mumbai: Vidarbha bowler Akshay Karnewar breaks world record in T20 cricket In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Manipur on Monday, left-arm spinner Karnewar, who bowled for Vidarbha, made four maidens (4 maidens in 4 overs).

The 29-year-old Karnewar did not concede a run in four overs against Manipur and dropped two. Karnewar is the first bowler in T20 history to make four maidens. Karnewar’s bowling prowess took Vidarbha to the knockout stage.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan has taken two wickets for just one run in four overs in the Caribbean Premier League. Irfan’s performance was in 2018 for the Barbados Trident.

In the four-over spell, Carnevar bowled with his left hand and right hand. Karnewar, who started his career as an off-spinner, can bowl with both hands. Karnewar said his achievement was incredible and he was happy to own the record.

Vidarbha batted first and scored 222 in 20 overs while Manipur were all out for 55 in 16.3 overs. Karnewar also shone in today’s match against Sikkimese. Karnewar, who scored a hat-trick against Sikkim, took four wickets for five runs, including a maiden, in four overs.

Venkatesh Iyer will shine

Venkatesh Iye, a newcomer to Indian cricket at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, was also impressed with his bowling prowess today. In the match against Bihar, medium pacer Venkatesh Iyer, who bowled for Madhya Pradesh, took two wickets for just two runs, including two maidens, in four overs. Iyer threw the fifth best economic spell in T20 history today.
