No More Lawn Chairs: Empower FCU Amphitheater Sticks with Policy for 2025 Concerts
Syracuse, NY – Get ready to rock, but leave your lawn chairs at home. The Empower FCU amphitheater, formerly known as St. Joe’s Amp and the Lakeview Amphitheater, is continuing its controversial policy of prohibiting outside lawn chairs for select concerts in 2025.The policy, first implemented in 2022, applies to concerts with more than 14,000 tickets sold. Country star Thomas Rhett’s Aug. 21 concert, which is expected to draw a large crowd, will be subject to the rule. While the venue can hold up to 17,500 peopel, the lawn area alone typically accommodates over 12,000 attendees.
the amphitheater’s management, ASM Global, says the policy is in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all concertgoers. However, the rule has sparked frustration among some fans who prefer to bring their own chairs for comfort, notably during longer shows.
Cindy Maudlin, a Syracuse resident and frequent concert attendee, voiced her disappointment last year after being surprised by the policy at a Chris Stapleton concert. Maudlin, who attends shows with her disabled sister, relies on lawn chairs for seating.
“I just think it’s crappy,” Maudlin said. “I always bring chairs as my sister can’t stand for three-plus hours.”
The venue website states that ticketholders requiring special seating accommodations should request them at the time of purchase. Othre accessibility options, including shuttle vehicles and sign language interpreters, are also available.
The 2025 concert schedule at the Empower FCU Amphitheater is already shaping up, with four shows announced so far, all subject to the lawn chair policy.
