T20 World Cup | England have no problem with toss; 26-run win over Sri Lanka

England become first team to reach semi-finals of T20 World Cup England beat Sri Lanka by 26 runs in the Super 12 to advance to the semi – finals. England advanced to the semi-finals with a brilliant all-round performance without the toss helping their luck. This is England’s fourth consecutive victory in this World Cup.

Chasing England’s target of 164, Sri Lanka lost all their wickets for 137 in 19 overs. After losing the toss and choosing to bat first in the match in Sharjah, England collapsed to 47 for three in 10 overs in the powerplay.

Batting first, England scored 163 for four in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 137 in 19 overs. Opener Jose Butler, who scored his maiden century in the tournament, was instrumental in England’s victory. Butler is the man of the match.

The duo added 112 runs for the fourth wicket. In the second ball of the 18th over, Morgan was dismissed for 40 off 36 balls. England batsmen have scored 116 runs in the last 10 overs.

Butler was unbeaten on 101 off 67 balls, including six sixes and six fours. Moin Ali was at the crease with a run off two balls. Spinner Vanindu Hazaranga took three wickets for 21 runs in four overs for Sri Lanka.

In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 19 in the sixth over when they were bowled out for six in their first innings. Charitha Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa tried to score quickly but both of them lost wickets quickly.

After falling to 76/5, Sri Lanka looked set to keep their chances alive in the match. Vanindu Hazarenga and skipper Dasun Shanaka fell for the sixth wicket as Sri Lanka came close to scoring for England. The team scored 53 off 36 balls. Sri Lanka should have scored 35 off 19 balls when they lost to Hazare. Sri Lanka’s hopes were dashed soon after when captain Dasun Shanaka (26) was sent off.
