Taiwan Lawmakers Clash Over Alleged China Ties

Taipei, Taiwan – A heated political battle is erupting in Taiwan as accusations of mainland China ties rock the island’s legislature. Kuomintang (KMT) lawmaker Xu Qiaoxin has leveled serious allegations against democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Ke Jianming, claiming he secretly invested in mainland Chinese companies.

Xu Qiaoxin, citing media reports, alleges that Ke Jianming funneled money into mainland Chinese enterprises through intermediaries. He further claims that Ke Jianming’s lawyer has even sent letters demanding repayment of debts from these associates.

“My official document clearly aims to address public affairs,” Xu Qiaoxin stated on Facebook. “I want to know if these media reports are true and investigate whether civil servants have illegally invested in Chinese-funded companies.”

ke Jianming vehemently denies the allegations, calling them a “smear campaign” orchestrated by Xu Qiaoxin and others. He insists the accusations stem from a misinterpretation of media reports and internet rumors.

“The relevant media and CCP affiliates, law firms, and media personalities used false facts to defame me,” Ke Jianming said in a Facebook post. “They are still smearing me today, which is extremely bad.”

Ke Jianming has vowed to file a lawsuit against xu qiaoxin and others involved, calling the situation a matter of both personal and national security.Xu Qiaoxin, undeterred by the threat of legal action, maintains that his evidence is solid and that he is prepared to face any legal challenge. This political clash highlights the ongoing tensions between Taiwan and mainland China, with accusations of Chinese influence in Taiwanese politics becoming increasingly common. The outcome of this dispute could have significant implications for Taiwan’s political landscape and its relationship with mainland China.
