Finland boasts the highest number of metal bands per capita globally,making Lim’s appointment particularly fitting. Chthonic, sometimes called the “Black Sabbath of Asia,” gained international recognition with their 2005 album ‘Seediq Bale’ and has performed at major festivals like Download and Ozzfest.
Lim acknowledged his long-standing connections to Finland’s music industry. “Working with my partners in the Finnish music industry for a long time has made me have a special feeling for this country,” Lim wrote. Chthonic previously signed with Finnish metal label Spinefarm Records and toured Finland with bands such as Ensiferum and Turisas.
Beyond his music career, Lim has a history of advocacy. He formerly chaired Amnesty International Taiwan and championed the declassification of documents from Taiwan’s authoritarian era. He also supports same-sex marriage legalization and protections for indigenous rights.
