Taliban call for resumption of commercial flights from India

New Delhi | The Taliban government has called on India to resume commercial flights from India to Afghanistan and back. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India has written to the Taliban-controlled Afghan Civil Aviation Authority requesting that the letter be headlined in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The letter was signed by Afghan Civil Aviation Minister Alhaj Hamidullah Akhunzada.

The letter is seen as the Taliban’s first official intervention with India, as India has not recognized the Taliban regime. India has suspended commercial flights to Afghanistan following the entry of Afghan troops into Kabul. Iran and Pakistan are the only two countries currently operating flights outside Afghanistan. There are also special flights to the UAE, Qatar, Turkey and Ukraine.
