Tarot Reading First Time: My Experience & Results
## From Mass to Inner Goddess: A Tarot Reading with ‘This Irish Witch’
“Something I’ve learned over the last few years is that customary religion teaches you God is outside, so you need to go to Mass, or you need to have your confession,” says Stacey Walsh, known online as This irish Witch.”With spirituality, I understand that the goddess is actually inside of me, and that I have control.”

Stacey has been reading tarot cards for the past two years, a skill her friends jokingly dread during social gatherings.
“My friends hate to see me coming when we have a few drinks as I’m like Mystic Meg,” she says with a laugh. “I’m like: ‘Come over here, I want to talk to you.'”
Her relaxed and friendly demeanor immediately puts one at ease.
The reading begins with Stacey connecting to my energy, quickly identifying a sense of stress likely stemming from navigating city centre traffic in the rain.”I’m feeling a lot of jaw pain, just on the right side,” Stacey observes.
she elaborates that this could indicate something I’m holding back. “Sometiems, the right side can be masculine energy. let’s say there’s a man in your life or there’s a very strong woman… you want to say something to them, and it’s like you’re clenching and you’re holding back.”
I’m unsure who this might represent – my husband is generally aware of my thoughts. However, a recent dentist appointment revealed teeth-clenching, lending credence to Stacey’s intuition.
The accuracy continues as Stacey turns over the cards. The queen of wands card, she says, reflects my natural fiery energy. “You are somebody who likes to go places… If you get stuck in a nine-to-five Monday to friday job, you’re actually going to drive yourself bananas.”
“The fire energy from the wand means that you’re extremely passionate. You have to be very driven in what you do,and it has to really stoke that fire inside.”
Passionate, driven, easily bored – I readily nod in agreement.
The king of pentacles card, she interprets, represents my husband’s grounding influence.”He’s very grounded. He needs to make sure the bills are paid, and the house is okay, and the tyres have air in them.”
Knowing he’d recently serviced the car and purchased new winter tires, I can’t help but smile.

Throughout the reading, a central theme emerges: the need for self-love. Stacey senses a past version of myself who didn’t believe I’d reach my current position.
“I think it can be a really good exercise to look at your past, and what I recommend to people is writing a letter to yourself,” she suggests. “You can say ‘thank you for everything you’ve done,’ or whatever it is, and you can release or set fire to it.”
I’m drawn to the idea, considering it as a potential Samhain ritual.
at one point, a card depicting a figure stabbing another in the neck appears. A worrying sign, perhaps?
But Stacey quickly reassures me, explaining it’s a message about self-kindness. “There’s this fear of people judging you behind your back, but when you feed yourself love, it doesn’t matter what anybody says.If you begin talking nicely to yourself, then other people’s judgments won’t really matter as much.”
Stacey’s advice for navigating slumps is to “lean into the love.” She emphasizes that women are often caregivers, but must also prioritize self-care.”We always give outwards… but our well runs dry. But if you start pouring into your well, your well overflows, and everybody benefits.”
I wholeheartedly agree.
Not every card resonates immediately. The devil card, as a notable example, warns of a possibly toxic work environment and a boss who “takes a lot of the credit, even though he’s done none of the work.”
Thankfully, this doesn’t ring true. Working as a freelancer has its challenges, but office politics aren’t among them.
I appreciate that a tarot reading isn’t meant to be literal, and Stacey doesn’t claim to have all the answers. The cards offer a chance for reflection and a new viewpoint. I believe the most valuable approach is to embrace what resonates and let go of the rest.
Interestingly, Stacey notes that even clients who appear cynical often find the readings insightful. “It’s funny,I’ve had people who sit across from me who give me nothing. They just sit there and they won’t even look at me… and at the end they’ll go: ‘That was the best reading!'”
I left the reading feeling calmer and with helpful insights. Whether you believe in tarot or witchcraft, spending time with someone who encourages openness, reflection, and self-kindness is profoundly restorative.
